Emssence is a mother-daughter story, told in scent, texture, and essential oils.
Before there was a brand, there were long journeys across continents — a mother and daughter visiting markets, workshops, and artisan studios during the early years of a curio curation business. Those travels became an education in how objects carry story, how materials speak, and how scent becomes memory.
Stock takes in distant warehouses. Unpacking boxes of handmade goods. Arranging shelves in ways that honored the maker’s intention. Together, they learned to see products not as inventory, but as artifacts of place — each one holding craftsmanship, cultural wisdom, and the invisible labor of hands.
From those years emerged a shared eye: for materiality, for merchandising, for the sensory details that transform the ordinary into the unforgettable. That eye still guides everything Emssence creates today.

For our BOTANY body care and amenities, we infuse imported base products with scents inspired by Namibia’s wild flora, formulated and finished right here at home by Jeremia. From Windhoek, we dispatch to the farthest corners of the country, leaving a trail of scent in Namibia’s most unforgettable stays. Our lifestyle pieces carry the marks of their makers: hand-selected, hand-stitched, and thoughtfully made. From the women-led teams in Khomasdal and Wanaheda to Cape Town’s artisan studios and block-print collectives in India, each item honours craftsmanship, community and creativity.

Eighteen years building brands — from Namibian artisan curation to opening Velvet Vagabond (an art deco theatre turned emporium) — have honed Marianne’s eye for quality and what lasts. Her formulation practice is where craft meets channel: 15+ years composing essential oil blends by feel, not formula. She’s the quality control, the devotion to detail, ensuring every product performs and feels alive. Her sensory intelligence and entrepreneurial rigor form Emssence’s uncompromising foundation.
